Peter was confirmed by RC Bishop Thomas Joseph Dowling at St. John Baptist Church in Chepstow, Ont. Peter was confirmed with the name "Erasmus". Peter and Catherine "Kate" Klein were married by Roman Catholic Priest F.A. Zettler in Chepstow, Ontario on January 23, 1906. Witnesses to their wedding were Henricus Fritz of Mt. Carmel, ND and Magdalena Klein of Chepstow, ON. Peter and Kate then moved to Wales, North Dakota, where Peter did carpenter work.

John moved in 1907 near Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, where he filed on a homestead five and a half miles southeast of Shaunavon, known 4 years later as Anglo School District #516. One of the signators of a Declaration to organize this School District was signed by Peter S. Fritz.

In 1909 Kate moved from North Dakota with children Andrew and Marie. They came by train via Moose Jaw to Gull Lake. Peter had shipped a carload of machinery, household furniture, three horses, one cow and some chickens. Our farm was 38 miles from Gull Lake, Sask. Until the railroad came in 1913, everything had to be hauled from Gull Lake, a 3-day trip. Peter built a two room house where they lived in until 1917, then moved into a two story house which Peter had built. He also built a big hip-roofed barn made of sod. He had his blacksmith forge in a front stall. They had no drinking water and Peter had to haul it from a spring about three times a week. Peter would hitch his horse "Bill" to a stone boat, which had two barrels, with wash tubs for lids. Kate (41 years old) passed away on December 2, 1922. Marie, age 13, looked after the family of 8 for six years until she married. In 1924 the barn burned and Peter built another. Peter passed away in March 1941, and son Andrew took over the farm in 1934 until December 1971 when he sold it to his son Philip and daughter-in-law Sheila.

Daughters Rita, Emma and Leona Fritz attended Anglo School in 1929 (photos of their class of 1929 can be found in the book Quarter Stake Echoes.

Peter received his education in Anglo School near Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, moving to the Nummola District in 1930. He farmed the Martinen farm until 1942. He acted as a Councillor for the Grassy Creek Municipality, and later Councillor in the town of Shaunavon for a short period. He was also on the Credit Union Board. He joined partnership with Alphonse Audette in the garage and transport business. He sold the business and franchise to the Canadian Pacific Transport in 1949. From 1949 until his death in 1963.

Emma was born on the family farm six miles southeast of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Emma's mother Catherine died when Emma was six years old. After her mother died Emma was raised by her oldest sister Marie until Marie married in 1927. Emma went to a country school called Anglo located two miles southeast of their farm. Neither Emma nor her siblings went further in school than Grade Eight. After finishing their eighth grade, they all had to earn their own keep. Emma and her father could not agree on certain things so Emma went to live with her married sister Marie until such time Emma found work. Emma soon found work around Shaunavon. She first worked for her Aunt Rena and roomed with her. After Emma's older sister Clara had quit her job at the Climax Hotel, Emma replaced her at the hotel. By this time Emma's younger sister Leona, who was working in Coronach, Sask. wrote Emma saying that a Mr. Henry McLeod wanted a girl to help them take care of his four young children. As the prospect for a longer jog was inviting, Emma accepted this job and moved to Coronach in the summer of 1935 and worked about a mile from her sister Leona. Emma then found a job cooking for a road crew who were building roads around Coronach. Emma then worked for Dena (Mrs. Frank) Day in the Day nursing home. It was when she was cooking for the crew near Coronach when she met her future husband Marvin Dwight Day at a dance in 1936. They were married three years later.

On April 4th, 1950, Emma and Marvin lost their home to fire. Emma had to enter the burning building to rescue their youngest son Donald, who was hiding with the family dog under his parents bed. When carrying Donald out of the house, Emma fell and sprained her ankle, thus spending time on crutches. It is interesting to note that Coronach's new fire fighting equipment had just arrived by train and had not yet been unloaded.

Emma's first three children (Shirley, Gregory, and Donald) were born in Marvin's mother's nursing home. Emma's last child Valerie was born in the local hospital.

Emma was quite active in the Coronach community. She was a founding member of the Coronach Catholic Church, the Catholic Womens' League, and was an officer in the Coronach Order of the Royal Purple. Emma was quite talented musically and directed and sang in the Catholic Church choir for several years. Emma enjoyed golfing and curling, winning several trophies and prizes. Emma was a founding member of the Coronach Ladies Golf Club. In her early years Emma played tennis. She could also play the piano, playing "by ear". During the last five years, Emma started painting and painted several pictures which are now held by her children. Emma helped found the TOPS organization in 1972.

Emma worked at the Coronach Union Hospital for several years, first in laundry, later as a cook, and finally as a nurse's aid. She was a cook at the Coronach Hotel when she passed away in 1978. While in Gull Lake, Sask. visiting her oldest son Gregory in the summer of 1978, Emma, aged 62, died of heart failure in the Gull Lake Hospital.

Leona Catherine Sorsdahl (nee Fritz), passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; her parents; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Leona is lovingly survived by her children: Lyle (Helen), Sharon (Lyle) Greiner, Neil (Leslie), Rodger (Shirley), and Russell; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she is affectionately known as Auntie Onie. Leona was born in Shaunavon, SK and later moved to Coronach, SK where she met and married her husband in 1936. She and Harold lived and worked in several communities in Southern Saskatchewan while raising their family. In their later years they moved to the Maple Creek area, finally settling in Cypress Hills Provincial Park where they worked until their retirement. She and Harold were avid card players, dancers and bowlers. After Harold's passing, Leona continued to reside in Moose Jaw until October 2011, when she moved to Regina to be closer to family. She will be sorrowfully missed by those who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Leona's Life will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, Moose Jaw, SK. Flowers are gratefully declined. FRITZ _ Sister Rita Monica 1920 - 2002 Sister Rita Monica Fritz, a Sister of Charity of St. Louis, died peacefully at St. John's Convent, on Sunday, September 29 at the age of 81 years. Sister Rita will be lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community; her sister Leona (Harold) Sorsdahl of Moose Jaw, SK; and by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Catherine and Peter Fritz, three brothers and five sisters. Sister Rita was born in Shaunavon, SK in 1920 where she received her primary education. After attending Joan of Arc Academy in Swift Current she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis in August 1939. She completed her novitiate training in Bienville, Quebec and pronounced her first profession of vows in 1942. Sister Rita then returned to the West to serve in her varied ministries. She attended Moose Jaw Teacher's College and taught in various schools until 1979. Pastoral ministry then became her main focus until her retirement to St. John's Convent in 2001. The many places in which she served included Medicine Hat, Moose Jaw, Burnaby, Swift Current, Radville, Weyburn, Wolseley, Regina and Wilcox. In each place Sister Rita gave of her many talents and in her retirement continued to serve others, especially the poor, through her prayer and beautiful crafts. Sister Rita will be remembered for her deep faith, her love of the Scriptures, the thoroughness with which she undertook and completed whatever she put a hand to and her creative skills. Her later years of pain and suffering were marked by deepening prayer, peace and acceptance. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Catholic Church (711 - 37 Street N.W.) on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Peter Fritz passed away peacefully on October 16th, 2019 at his ?home? at Seasons Encore at the age of 87. Although optimum health was not his to enjoy for the past 9 years, his death came quickly. He was born on December 11, 1931 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan the only child to Ina (nee Martinen) and Peter Fritz. He attended school in Shaunavon, St. Theresa?s in Medicine Hat and completed two years of engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in. He began his work life as a surveyor and spent some time in the Queen Charlotte Islands. He met the love of his life, Sheila McPherson and they were married in 1959 in Sheila?s home town of Wawota, Saskatchewan. They spent their early years in Calgary, where Kathy, Ronn and Karen were all born, and then began the life of moving around being employed by Shell Canada. Heather was born while the family was in Estevan, Saskatchewan and Krista in Olds. Don loved fishing, camping, reading, travelling, challenging others, and all types of creating from building homes to theatre sets. While Don enjoyed his work with Shell, he was happy to retire at the age of 55 and embrace a short time consulting. His love of music took him to join the church choir, where he made some very special friendships and memories. This then led to an amazing few years in musical theatre where he embraced the characters he played with joy, commitment and enthusiasm. Throughout his life he demonstrated his commitment to his family and community. He offered his time and energy in service to a variety of ways including Olds Kiwanis, Olds Municipal Library, Town of Olds Councillor, parish council at St. Stephens, where he was involved in the building of the new Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his quick wit, creative vision, community leadership, his acting and singing voice and love of family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sheila; 5 children daughter Kathy (Al) Kemmere and their children son Dan (Jana), daughters Ashleigh (Rich) McDonald , Chelsea (Jesse) Burge; son Ronn Fritz and his sons Gus and Anders; Karen (Mark) Cresswell and their daughters Anna and Lauren; Heather (Ben) Venneman and their daughters Breana, Meghan and Kaitlyn; Krista (Neil) Barclay and their children Graham and Meredith; 7 great- grandchildren and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father in 1963 and his mom in 2013. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 21, 2019 at St. Stephen?s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nilo Macapinlac celebrant. Private family interment to follow. Shirley was born at Grandma Day's nursing home in Coronach, Saskatcewan. She took her elementary and secondary education at Coronach. Shirley was an active member of the 4-H Club, mainly sewing and cooking. She took piano lessons for many years, completed her Grade 8 Practical and Grade 2 Theory in piano. Shirley enjoyed singing, curling, skating and most track and field events. Through Grades 3 to 12, Shirley sang in the school choral group, participating in many Assiniboia Music Festivals. Shirley also played saxophone and trombone in the school band.

In 1960 Shirley and three other students graduated from the Coronach School. She attended a ten-month steno course at Reliance School of Commerce in Regina and completed it in June 1961. She was employed as an assistant secretary-treasurer for the Gull Lake School Unit until December 1961. She then transferred to the Borderland School Unit in Rockglen, Sask. While employed with the Borderland School Unit she took a Local Government Administration course and received her LGA diploma in the summer of 1963.

Shirley married Ralph Kupper in July 1963 in Coronach. She decided to live in Coronach and commuted to Rockglen to work until the end of 1963. Ralph and Shirley purchased a two-bedroom trailer which they parked in Ralph's parents' yard. They lived in that trailer for seven years and sold it on October 31, 1970 and then rented a small two-story house. In February 1971 Ralph and Shirley, pregnant with Carla, and family of two boys Rodney and Todd, moved again into a bigger rental house. They finally built their own house and moved into it on June 15, 1977.

Shirley worked from January to December 1974 for the combined offices of the R.M. of Hart Butte #11 and the Village of Coronach as assistant secretary. In June 1978, with three children in school, I re-entered the work force as school secretary for the Coronach School and held that position until retirement.

Shirley married Ralph Eugene Kupper on 6 Jul 1963 in Coronach, RM #11, SK, Canada.
