  On Oct 1, 1861, Sylvester enlisted in Co. E. Mass. 27th Infantry as Corporal for the Civil War. He was 45 years old. He received a disability discharge on Aug 7, 1862. and on April 19, 1870, he received his discharge papers in Boston, MA. [1]
