  • Notes
    • Richard graduated from the Washington Medical College of Baltimore in March 1832. In May 1837 he emigrated to Illinois and located in Mount Carmel, Wabash County, and soon entered into a large practice, embracing obstetrics and surgery. In 1843 he moved to Batesville, Arksnsas, where he remained until 1846, doing a full practice, but on account of continued bad health, had to seek a more southern latitude. In 1846 he settled in Patterson, St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Here he rapidly regained his health and soon succeeded in getting a large practice and many warm-hearted friends. In 1851 he was elected to the State Legislature, serving two terms. In January 1854 he located in Baton Rouge, the state capital, where he remained until his death. [1]
