- John was thought to have come in 1630, with Winthrop. John in Dec 1632 was sent as Lieutenant with 20 men against a pirate at the East, for which in July 1633 he was paid 10 pounds. He became a Captain in Nov 1633. He was first on the list of freemen 4 Mar 1635. He was Representative 1635 and 1636, and in 1636 he removed with Warham to Windsor. He had great service in the military and civil life. He finished the Pequot War in 1637 being chief commander. He was Representative 1637 to 1641, then Assistant to 1659, then Deputy-Governor for 8 Major-Generals, and then commissioner for the Congress of New England 1647, 1654-1656, 1659 and 1661. From Windsor he removed in 1647 to Saybrook, thence to first settlement of Norwich in 1659. [3]
