- In the autumn of 1838, he left Essex with two wagons and four horses. On November 27th he crossed the Mississippi river at the mouth of Rock river, and settled about two miles from the Mississippi, in Iowa, where he continued to reside, until 1855, when he removed to Chatfield, MN.
