Notes |
- Erastus M. Day was born on a farm later owned by B.O. Camp. He was
a wagon maker and ran a sawmill. He also did carpenter work. In
1848 he lived in the newly-organized borough of Friendsville, PA.
The 1850 census for Friendsville, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania
shows him as being a wagonmaker and having a real estate value of
$7,000. He owned a public house (hotel-inn) and the history of the
hotel is as follows: "Warren Lung ran a public house until 1837.
In 1853 J.W. Granger built a larger public house which ke kept for
several years and then sold to Z.L. Cooley who sold it to E.M. Day
who ran it from 1858 to 1868. Charles Morse was the next owner of
the building and sold it to Canfield Stone in 1882. The public
house was a very popular place in the county." The 1870 census for
Bridgewater, Montrose, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania shows
Erastus M. Day as a farmer with real estate value of $3,000 and
personal property worth $1,500. Erastus died after years of
failing health and weakness. His obituary states "Mr. Day had
accepted Christ" and that "he was an Honorable Man. His word was
a good as his bond." According to his obituary he lived all of his
life in three towns: Forest Lake, Choconut and Rush, Pennsylvania.
