- Alfred lived in Wilbraham, MA until 1813 at which time he went to
Boston and enlisted as a drummer, the War of 1812 being then in
progress. He was stationed at Commercial Point about six miles
south of Boston, where a British landing was anticipated. He
returned home in 1815 to marry Lydia Calkins. In 1818 Alfred and
Lydia left MA by ox-team and wagon and went to northern OH where
they settled on Lot 13 in Mantua Township of Portage, OH. In 1850
he sold his farm and moved to Pittsfield Township, Lorain Co., OH.
In 1860 he moved again to MN where some of his children had
previously settled. They lived on a farm in section 3, Castle Rock
township, MN. Three years later he sold that farm and bough
another in section 16 of the same township. Alfred and Lydia are
buried in the Castle Rock Valley Cemetery about 6 1/2 miles
southeast of Farmington, MN.
