10. | Dr. Richard Hance Day was born on 9 Jun 1813 in Calvert County, MD (son of Robert Joseph Day and Mary Hance); died on 4 Dec 1892 in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, LA; was buried in Magnolia cemetery. Notes:
Richard graduated from the Washington Medical College of Baltimore in March 1832. In May 1837 he emigrated to Illinois and located in Mount Carmel, Wabash County, and soon entered into a large practice, embracing obstetrics and surgery. In 1843 he moved to Batesville, Arksnsas, where he remained until 1846, doing a full practice, but on account of continued bad health, had to seek a more southern latitude. In 1846 he settled in Patterson, St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. Here he rapidly regained his health and soon succeeded in getting a large practice and many warm-hearted friends. In 1851 he was elected to the State Legislature, serving two terms. In January 1854 he located in Baton Rouge, the state capital, where he remained until his death.
Richard married Lavinia Segnore Elam on 31 May 1853. Lavinia (daughter of Judge James Mason Elam and Rebecca Chambers) was born on 17 Feb 1832; died on 27 Sep 1865. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
