  • Notes 
    • William of Salem, son of Honorable William Brown. Was freeman 1668. One of Andros' council 1687-79, and of the council of safety, when the usurpation was put down. Not named by Increase Mather in the Charter of 1692, but chosen next year by a full vote of the Representatives of the people. The benefactor to Harvard College of this gentleman, of his father, brother, and son are honorably commemorated by Quincy in his great work. [1]
