  Charles was in the railroad business since boyhood, having been connected with the engineering corps, transportation department and telegraph service. He was in the employ of the Pennsylvania, the Grand Rapids and Indiana, The New York, Chicago and St. Louis, the Louisville, New Albany and Chicago railroads. He lived in Richmond, IN, Columbus and Cleveland, OH, and Indianapolis, IN. Mr. Ashley and his family were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis.
