Notes |
- William enlisted as a private in Company I, Tenth Regiment Mass. Volunteers, and was mustered June 31, 1861. He was promoted Second-Lieutenant Sept 8, 1862, and First-Lieutenant Nov 8, 1862. In the battle of the Wilderness, May 5, 1864, he was shot through the head and expired instantly. His name is on the honor roll on the soldiers' monument in West Springfield.
