Notes

Samuel was reared on a farm in NY and at the age of 20 went to Oregon, IL where he entered a Normal school. The following year he taught school in Bonus, Boone County, IL. He was principal in 1875 at Union, IL and then in 1877 he was principal in Capron, IL. In 1889 he moved to Sioux Falls and again taught school. He then taught at Sioux Falls University until 1897.
