- Lucius was the illigitimate son of Elmina Patterson and Ira Day. When Ira's wife wife Martha died, leaving him with 3 children, Ira hired a housekeeper. It was said that within a few months, she became pregnant, but Ira was courting Olive Smith and did not marry Lucius' mother Almina Patterson. Ira provided financially for Lucius. Lucius took the family name DAY.
