- EDWARD. Summary of military service record: 17-May-1861 - enlisted
in Capt. Fairchild's company (later Co. K). 1st Wisconsin Infantry
at Milwaukee, WI for 3 months, age 19 years. 15-Jul-1861 -
discharged for disability at Martinsburg, VA (now WV). Certificate
of discharge given. 21-Aug-1861 - mustered out of service at
Milwaukee, WI. 08-Aug-1862 - enlisted in 21st Wisconsin Volunteers
Infantry at Menasha, WI for 3 years. Age 20 years, 4 mos. 05-Sep-
1862 - mustered into Capt. Nelson's Co. (Co. I) 21st Regt., Wis.
Inf. at Oahkest, Wis. as a Corporal. Paid $25.00 bounty. To 31-
Dec-1862 - Present for duty, Co. I, 21st Wis. Infantry per company
muster rolls. 02-Jan-1863 - reported as AWOL from battle at Stones
River, TN by company commander. Later reported captured by the
enemy on Jan. 2, 1863 and paroled on same date at Lavergre, TN.
31-Jan-1863 - reported at Camp Chase, Ohio (per memorandum from
Prisoner of War Records). Carried on Muster Rolls of Co. A., 2
Reqt. Paroled Forces, Camp Chase, Ohio to Mar. 4, 1863. 12-Mar-
1863 - honorably discharged from service at Columbus, Ohio, per
para 5. Spec. Orders No. 109, War Dept, AGO Office. dated March
7, 1863. Note: Edward H. Reed received a Civil War Veteran's
pension for a number of years (20 or more) prior to his death in
May, 1918. Last payment of $22.50 was made under date of May 4,
1918. Source: Records of Bureau of Pensions, Dept of the Interior
between Aug 1898 and Aug 1918. From Certificate of Service,
Wisconsin State Archives: birth place was Milwaukee, WI. Had blue
eyes, brown hair, light complexion, was 5 feet 8 inches in height,
and by occupation a Printer. Rev. DeLoss conducted the wedding.
